Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna has announced a Rs 9.47 billion highway four-laning project while outlining plans for several bypasses, bridges and junction upgrades across the state.
The proposed project will upgrade a 43.16 km stretch of National Highway 75 between Pathalampalli and Latheri into a four-lane corridor. It will also include an 11.85 km bypass passing through 13 villages, with land acquisition currently under way.
The project will involve the construction of new bridges and culverts along with improvements to major junctions. The minister said the proposal is awaiting final administrative approval before construction contracts can be awarded.
Arjuna informed the Assembly that 182 MLAs had submitted requests for bypass infrastructure and that Detailed Project Report (DPR) work had been initiated for several such proposals.
During Question Hour, legislators raised demands for bypasses, high-level bridges and junction improvements to ease congestion and reduce accidents. Proposals included bypasses along the Madurai-Theni corridor, infrastructure to handle heavy commercial traffic near industrial hubs, and measures to address accident-prone stretches.
Other suggestions included a roundabout or elevated flyover and a high-level bridge connecting Agaracheri and Koodanagaram.
The minister said DPR preparation was progressing for key industrial corridors and accident-prone locations, while some proposals remained at the initial evaluation stage. Project implementation will depend on land acquisition, technical clearances, statutory approvals and completion of the required surveys.
