The Public Works (R&B) Department provided the figures in response to a starred question, D No. 1/6/236, tabled by MLA Choudhary Mohammed Akram. The question covered damage to road infrastructure, including the Foot Julla Bridges, after cloudbursts and flash floods affected the constituency.
The department said work-wise details of the roads and bridges selected for permanent restoration had been provided in Annexure A to the government reply. It also reported damage to 16 PMGSY roads, with the relevant information listed separately in Annexure B.
However, the government response available in the report did not include the work-wise details from either annexure. It therefore did not specify the individual locations, estimated costs or current status of each proposed restoration project, leaving the scale and sequencing of the works unclear.
The reply also addressed the Mondi-Paghla road, officially designated as T04-Bufliaz to Mandi Paghla. The road was taken over by the Public Works (R&B) Department from PWD (R&B) during 2022-23, placing it under the department’s administration before the latest flood-related damage was assessed.
The figures provide a broad assessment of the impact on Surankote’s transport infrastructure, while the missing annexure details mean that the precise condition of individual roads and bridges cannot be established from the response. Further information would be required to determine project-wise costs, implementation timelines and the extent of completed restoration.
