The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun the process of setting up a toll plaza at Janaula on the under-construction Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway. The 16-lane facility is expected to increase annual toll revenue and will use a multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system.

NHAI officials said 80 per cent of the toll plaza construction had been completed. The 45-km highway, also referred to as the Gurugram-Rewari-Pataudi route, is being built at a cost of Rs. 19 bn, including Rs. 6 bn spent on land acquisition.

The plaza will have eight lanes in each direction. Under the MLFF tender, the contractor will design, supply, install, test and commission the tolling infrastructure, including one gantry on the main carriageway and paved shoulders in each direction. The gantries will be positioned about 350 m downstream of the respective fee plaza location, in the direction of traffic movement. The bid is scheduled to open on October 23, while Janaula is about 19 km from the Dwarka Expressway.

Most of the highway project is complete, although a railway overbridge at Pahari village and a flyover at the Dwarka Expressway remain pending. Officials said both structures were expected to be completed by March. NHAI has started load-bearing tests on the Jamalpur flyover, which is expected to open shortly, while the Patli flyover is nearly complete and is due to open within 15 days.

Earlier this month, three flyovers between the Dwarka Expressway and Wazirpur, along with the Pataudi bypass, were opened to traffic. The new highway is estimated to divert about 70 per cent of traffic currently using the Delhi-Jaipur Highway for travel between Gurugram and Rewari. Officials said this would ease congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur route and roads linking Gurugram with Pataudi and Rewari.
