The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, began a 3-day statutory safety inspection of the elevated section of Bengaluru’s Pink Line on Tuesday. The inspection is being led by V Venkatasubramanian and covers the metro stretch along Bannerghatta Road.

The 7.5-km section will connect Kalena Agrahara with Tavarekere and includes six stations. Jayadeva Hospital station is expected to become Bengaluru’s third interchange station, adding another connection point to the city’s expanding metro network.

The Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation (BMRCL) said the CMRS inspection forms part of the statutory process required to obtain authorisation for opening the section for public carriage. The inspection is intended to assess the completed infrastructure and related safety arrangements before passenger services begin.

The exercise started with a motor trolley inspection of the elevated line between Kalena Agrahara and Jayadeva Hospital. During the first phase, the CMRS visited five stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, JP Nagar 4th Phase, IIMB and Jayadeva Hospital.

The remaining section between Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere is scheduled to be covered on Wednesday. The inspection will therefore span the full elevated corridor, from its southern starting point at Kalena Agrahara to its terminal station at Tavarekere.

The Bannerghatta Road corridor is part of the Pink Line, which also includes an underground section elsewhere on the route. The statutory review of the elevated stretch is a necessary step before the metro operator can secure approval for public operations. Further decisions on opening the line will follow the completion of the inspection and the required authorisation process.
