A project to upgrade an inter-district connectivity road between Longleng and Mon districts in Nagaland was launched on October 14 at Yeangmon, near Pangsha Bridge. The road will run from Yongphang village through Yangching to Ukha Lampong, connecting with the Border Roads Organisation road network.

The launching programme was attended by Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Naiba Konyak, MLA A Nyemnyei Konyak and Advisor and MLA A Pongshi Phom, according to a report from the Department of Information and Public Relations. Representatives of village councils, the Public Works Department (PWD) Longleng Division and the Presented Phom People’s Council also took part in the event.

Phom highlighted the traditional ties between the Konyak and Phom communities and urged residents of both districts to support the construction work. He said the road should serve people on both sides and called for cooperation with workers and government departments involved in implementing the project.

He also said surveys would be conducted to determine the road alignment and identify improved water sources for villages along the route. Phom described road and communication links as essential to wider development and asked stakeholders to give the project priority.

The project will be implemented in phases and is expected to take time, but Phom said it would eventually be completed. Naiba Konyak and A Nyemnyei Konyak also addressed the gathering, while representatives of Yongphang, Yangching, Ukha Lampong and Ukha village councils delivered brief speeches. The programme began with a prayer led by the pastor of Yongphang Baptist Church, was chaired by PWD junior engineer Lakphak and concluded with a benediction from the pastor of Ukha Baptist Church.
