Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has inaugurated three bridges and flyovers in Mumbai, saying the projects would improve north-south and east-west connectivity and support the goal of reducing travel time across the city to 50 to 60 minutes. The projects are located at Sion, Vidyavihar and Goregaon East.

The facilities were inaugurated virtually and are intended to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and make travel between key parts of Mumbai more efficient. The Sion railway overbridge and Vidyavihar railway bridge are expected to strengthen connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the city.

The reconstructed Sion bridge replaces a 112-year-old British-era structure that was demolished after being declared unsafe in 2019. The new bridge will make space for the planned fifth and sixth railway lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Kurla under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)-II.

The Sion project was originally scheduled for completion in February 2027 but was completed four months ahead of schedule, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The additional railway lines are intended to increase the number and frequency of suburban train services and improve the operation of long-distance trains.

The Vidyavihar bridge connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg in the east with Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in the west. The facility is expected to reduce the journey between the two sides from around 30 minutes to 10 minutes and ease pressure on the Ghatkopar railway overbridge.

The third project is a 1.26 km flyover near Hotel Ratnagiri junction in Goregaon East. Built as part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, it connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road near Santosh Nagar. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, ministers Ashish Shelar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde attended the inauguration.
