The new road is expected to save drivers about 40 to 50 minutes on journeys through the region. According to reports attributed to NDTV, the route will provide an alternative to busy urban roads and improve connectivity around Chandigarh and Mohali. It is also expected to make access to the Mohali International Airport area more convenient for passengers.
The corridor will serve motorists travelling from Delhi towards Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. After reaching Mohali, travellers can continue towards the Kharar-Kurali bypass and Rupnagar, which connect to routes leading to Kiratpur and other parts of Himachal Pradesh. The route may also provide a smoother option during periods of heavy traffic and weekend travel.
The Ambala-Mohali-Kurali corridor forms part of a wider highway network serving northern India. Travellers heading towards Shimla and Manali can use the Ambala side, Rupnagar and Kiratpur routes, while roads near Pathankot provide onward connectivity towards Jammu and Srinagar. Motorists travelling into Punjab can also access Amritsar and Jalandhar through the four-lane highway near Rupnagar.
The project will connect with the approximately 31-km Mohali IT City-Kurali Greenfield Expressway, which is already operational. Together, the two stretches are expected to strengthen road links between Haryana and Punjab. The under-construction Ambala-Shamli Expressway is planned to add another connection between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, further expanding the regional network. The opening of the Ambala-Mohali section is expected to improve travel around Chandigarh, Mohali and neighbouring areas.
